Alright, you see a round steak on sale at Shaheen's IGA-It's a nice lookin' piece of meat, but it ain't a Delmonico.
On the other hand it'd be good for something, and that something I decided was Philly Cheese Steaks.
Nice marbling.....
Saute' onions, pepper and garlic first.
Then slice that baby thin, as thin as you can.....
Add the sauteed peppers and onions (and some garlic, salt and pepper)......
and simmer......
Here's where it get's funny- if you look up authentic Philly Cheesesteaks they use the gooey processed cheese that could alternate as artery cement. But what the heck, I wanted authentic, so I went to Sav-A-Lot and got the closest thing I could find.
Marvella- seriously, Marvella......
I could digress about how I lived on Velvetta at SUNY Oswego in 1980, but then that would explain too much- needless to say Marvella is like Velveeta, only cheaper.

So I melted some in the microwave.....
Shit's got a half life of 75 years.
And put it on the sammies.
With homemade fries-and you know what, the cheese makes the sammie. Nothing I'd do on a regular basis, but man it tasted good. (and I've still got about 2 lbs. left).
Maybe melt some Marvella over a bagel with bacon tomorrow AM........
OK, you got my creative juices running, Tup. Some time ago I thought I was buying what they call around here, 7 Bone Steak - something off the beef's shoulder area - not tender, but lots of flavor. Got it home and noticed there was a tiny tag on the giant pack that said, "Carne Asada Cut". Now, this is a really thin cut - but they had them stacked on top of each other, and it looked like one giant cut of meat!
ReplyDeleteSo I divided them up and froze them, in anticipation of doing some Mex BBQ with all the trimmings and both corn and flour tortillas - your cheese steaks reminded me that they're still in the freezer, but I'm gonna' pull 'em for some excellent "living room tailgateing" fare this weekend!
Hey, if you get bored with Philly Cheese Steaks, make a pizza with your fixings and that new crust! Or, grab yourself some tortillas and invent a Philly Cheese Burrito.
