Received an e-mail from my friend Annemarie with some nice pics of Dutch Oven pizza that she and her hubby Jack made over the weekend.
Here's the text of her e-mail.
Jack and I made a pizza over the fire yesterday in our dutch oven. I used my breadmaker dough and homemade sauce. I added some of Joe Shaheens' sweet sausage, mushrooms, pepperoni, bacon, mozarella, and provolone that I got at Vincent's in Syracuse. We hung it over the fire for 10 minutes or so in the dutch oven that we preheated. Then we added coals to the top. It was amazing.
I gotta say I'm fairly blown away by the pics.
Seriously, who would think of making pizza in a big old cast iron pot over a fire in the backyard?
Well, Jack and Annemarie would.
And man, it looks outstanding!
Here's the pics.
Pretty friggin' cool, huh?
I can't wait to try this pie!
Yes, did this when I was in boy scouts...but for the sake of full disclosure, I'm pretty sure my crust was bisquick. Nice lookin pot pies!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful looking pie and I love the technique. Heat and cast iron are a tough combo to beat. I'd do it!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks amazing! What a fun idea!
ReplyDeleteHey, I got a fireplace (which is used for real heat, BTW) and I got a cast iron dutch oven! I think I'll try this - Yes, they do look mighty good!
