Guess where.....

I'd like to be right friggin' now.......

It's 5 F'in degrees here. Why would anyone choose life here in the sub-arctic, when you can be there, on Island time baby.

Hint # 1.

Hint #2.

And the coup de gras......

Nibblin' on sponge cake
Watchin' the sun bake
All of those tourists covered with oil
Strummin' my six-string
On my front porch swing
Smell those shrimp; they're beginning to boil........

Foodie gifts......

Got a few foodie gifts-

Mom got me this cookbook-
I love Italian, so this ought to be a good read.

And my step-daughter and son-in-law bought me a pressure cooker-
Pretty cool, never had one.

Kind of looks like a slowcooker on steroids doesn't it?

It came with a recipe book, so I've got my work cut out-

Gotta do a little reading this afternoon......

A Christmas Story......

Tourtiere or French Canadian Meat Pie.

I grew up just south of the border of Quebec,in what was a logging town at the turn of the last century.

This is what it looked like then. Tough work.
A simpler time perhaps, but not from a work standpoint.
This was seriously dangerous work.

Christmas Day 2010.

Alrighty-got the present thing done last night.

Big Breakfast this Morning-Scrambled eggs-Joe's sausage from Shaheen's-best breakfast sausage in the universe-bacon, toast and pancakes.
So after that I'm fatter than normal, so I decided to go for a ride and take some pics. Went down Kildare Road, just outside of town.
Here's my 12/25/2010 Documentation.

Merry Christmas All!

From our kitchen to yours!

And we're only 5 months away from.....

But for now, it is what it is!

Best Damn Christmas Present Ever!

My wife has an intuition-and when The Boss came out with a compilation of the making of Darkness on the Edge of Town-she must have known that I'd be blown away with the Set. It's a 6 CD/DVD set with a notebook of Bruce's handwritten lyrics. With pics from the mid  70's.
I'm listening to it it now and I'm blown away.

I got a 69 Chevy with a 396.......

Merry Christmas.

And many more to all of you!

Pulled Pork.....

Had a hankerin' for puled pork sammies the other day.
Looked up a recipe- Found it on All recipes.com.

It was the perfect recipe-easy. Had great reviews, so who am I to argue?
It met my main criteria-easy to make on a weekend.

Went to the store, found my favorite butcher John, told him was I was doing and he said, "I made pulled pork last night!"

I said, "Show me what I need."
It was pork butt-they didn't haven't any 4 pounders, so he went and cut me one.
(I doubled the the recipe from above)

 Here's the start pic
It cooks in root beer.
I did add a whole chopped onion, some garlic flakes, salt and pepper and a splash of worcestshire sauce.

Depending on your slow cooker it can take anywhere between 4-7 hours to complete.
Mine runs hot, so it took about 5 hours.

Close to the end-
You've got to eyeball it-and when it starts to shred, well, it's time to pull.
I drained it, then shredded it.

Put it back in the slow cooker, dumped a bottle and a half of hickory smoked BBQ sauce on it and let it go for another 1/2 hour to absorb.
(Sorry no pic-got distracted)

Then toast some buns or bread of any type, and serve with fries.
I had to put cheese on mine- and man were they good!
Very easy, very tasty, and yup, I'll do it again...........

Seriously, very good.

2011 Tinman......

Each year since 1983, Tupper Lake has hosted the Tupper Lake Tinman race.
It's a half Ironman, which means 1.2 mile / Bike: 56 mile / Run: 13.7 mile.  Quite a test of endurance.
Now you won't see me participating, but you will get to see, exceptional athletes, some World Class as they tune up for the Lake Placid Ironman.

My good friend Ted Merrihew is the race director and is really looking forward to the next edition.

If you'd like to participate, volunteer, or just watch you can find the info at Tupper Lake Timan.

Tinman, Go For It!

Spaghetti Pie.......

Looking for something a little different the other night, tired of the same old, same old.....

My friend Glenda in the produce section at Sav-A-Lot suggested this to me as we were swapping recipes a week or so ago.

So I searched and found a recipe at Love at First Bite.

I followed that recipe to a "T", well almost.
I put the mozz on top, instead of on the ricotta on the base.

Came out of the oven, looked great!

The inner workings.

The Slice.

The only thing I'd suggest is where the above recipe states 2 cups of tomato sauce or diced tomatoes, go with the sauce, or homemade marinara. I used diced, and although it tasted good the first night, it was a bit bland. Or i should have cooked the diced tomatoes down and spiced 'em up

For leftovers on the 2nd night I poured some canned tomato sauce on it after reheating and then it was really good.

And, yes, I'd make it again.

Baby, "It's cold outside!"

Yup, Here I am again, bitchin' about the weather. Global Warming?

Even our pets aren't going outside.
Here's where they are right now!

Sunday afternoon.....

You may as well get used to it. I'm going to start bitchin' about the cold weather and probably stop around June.
Give me Key West, please!
The only redeeming thing about living up here in the Great White North is that it gives one ample opportunity to cook and eat.

Not much cooking going on here at the moment-strip steaks and homemade fries later on.

Right now it's mid-afternoon snack time.
So what better than some cheese, crackers, and a little pepperoni.

Picked up the cheese at Sam's Club in Plattsburgh the other day and finally opened it up.

 Cabot, 30 month old cheddar.
Cabot cheeses come out of our neighbor Vermont and their cows are doing exceptional work.

Snack time.......

Wicked good cheese at a pretty good price-just under 6 bucks a lb.

I'd definitely recommend this for holiday gatherings and for the cheese lovers in your house.

Hoops and Pizza...

Made 2 pies yesterday to consume during the Syracuse-NC State basketball game.
The first was a white pie- Evoo, basil, garlic, onion and tomato, parm and mozz.

Very happy with the result.  Looked great, tasted great.

'Cuse Football is in........

The Pinstripe Bowl!

First Bowl since 2004 for the 'Cuse who struggled mightily the last few years.

Under Coach Doug Marrone's direction and in only his second year, they're bowl bound.

The game will held in Yankee Stadium in the Big Apple.
Pretty cool- Cuse's first bowl game in 6 years in the greatest baseball stadium in the world!
December 30th @ 3:30 On ESPN- Go Cuse!
